HX SERIES TRAINING

RAMVAC HX SERIES HYDRO EXCAVATOR MECHANIC/TECHNICIAN TRAINING

Course Duration: 2 Days (Classroom & Hands-On Instruction)

Course Overview: This technical training course is designed to provide mechanics and technicians with in-depth knowledge of the Sewer Equipment Company HX RamVac Series hydro excavation machines. This course combines classroom instruction with practical discussion to equip participants with the skills necessary to safely operate, maintain, diagnose, and repair the HX Series machine. A clean HX Series truck will be supplied by the host for the training.


Emphasis is placed on system functionality, troubleshooting methodology, safety practices, and real-world service scenarios to support effective equipment uptime and performance.


Learning Objectives

  Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of hydro excavation machine systems and related equipment components.
  • Review safety procedures when operating the HX Series hydro excavation machine.
  • Instruct in areas of routine maintenance and system troubleshooting.
  • Identify common system failures and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Comply with applicable safety practices and environmental considerations.

Module 1 – HX Series Hydro Excavator Machine Overview

  • Introduction to the HX RamVac Series platform
  • Overview of machine design and operational purpose
  • Comparison of hydraulic drive vs. transfer-case configurations

Module 2 – Component Identification & Layout

  • Physical location of major components
  • Component appearance and service access points
  • Orientation to machine layout for diagnostics

Module 3 – Water System Operation & Service

  • Water system design and component functionality
  • Common water system issues and diagnostic strategies
  • Root-cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Water pump service considerations and repairs 

Module 4 – Vacuum System Operation & Service

  • Vacuum system design and airflow principles
  • Troubleshooting vacuum performance issues
  • Positive displacement blower operation and repairs

Module 5 – Hydraulic System Operation & Service

  • Hydraulic system layout and component functions
  • Diagnostic procedures for hydraulic issues
  • Hydrostatic pump operation and repair considerations

Module 6 – Electrical System Fundamentals

  • Electrical system architecture and component functionality
  • Common electrical faults and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Diagnostic best practices 


Training Materials

  • HX Series training manuals and reference materials
    (Provided to participants and retained for future field reference)


Required PPE

Participants are required to supply and wear the following PPE for time spent around the HX Series:

  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection (earmuffs or foam earplugs)
  • Safety footwear as required by the host facility

  • Punctuality is required for all scheduled sessions.
  • Cell phones and personal devices must be turned off during instruction.
  • Failure to comply with course policies may result in removal from the course without refund.
